Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about ballet dance classes in Leeds

While proper shoes are recommended for technique, you can wear socks for your first class if you haven't purchased them yet. We recommend getting fitted for proper slippers at a dancewear shop after your trial session. Pink or black soft leather or canvas shoes typically cost £15-25 and are essential for regular training.

Absolutely not! Our classes welcome students of all ages from 17 upwards. We have thriving beginner sessions with students who started in their 20s, 30s, 40s and beyond. Classical training is adapted to suit adult bodies and abilities while still achieving beautiful technique. Many of our most dedicated students discovered this art form later in life and love the challenge and rewards it brings. We also offer children's ballet classes Leeds for younger dancers!

It's challenging but absolutely achievable for beginners! Our classes break down complex movements into manageable steps. While it requires dedication and practice, adult students often progress quickly with regular attendance due to better body awareness and focus. Many find sessions therapeutic and rewarding, improving posture, flexibility, and confidence. Perfect for adults 17+ and we have children's classes available too.

Not at all! Flexibility develops naturally through regular training. Our beginner classes start with basic stretches and gradually build flexibility over time. The beauty of classical dance is that it creates flexibility rather than requiring it. Many adult students are surprised how much their flexibility improves within just a few weeks.

Our teachers are qualified in multiple prestigious methods: ISTD (Imperial Society of Teachers of Dancing), IDTA (International Dance Teachers' Association), and RAD (Royal Academy of Dance). While our adult drop-in classes don't follow graded examinations, our teachers use their extensive training to provide excellent technique instruction. ISTD emphasises strong technique and performance quality, IDTA focuses on versatility across dance styles, while RAD combines classical technique with contemporary teaching.

Absolutely! Men are warmly welcomed in all our classes. Male dancers develop incredible strength, athleticism, and agility. Many men discover this art form as adults for fitness, to improve sports performance, or simply for the joy of dance. Our mixed sessions create a supportive environment where everyone learns together, regardless of gender.

Our drop-in classes focus on building beautiful technique in soft shoes. While pointe work requires years of consistent training and isn't typically part of drop-in sessions, we help you develop strength, flexibility and proper alignment. Most students find tremendous satisfaction in mastering technique in soft shoes, enjoying the elegance and fitness benefits of classical training.

Yes! Our studio hosts annual showcases where students can perform classical variations and contemporary pieces. These performances are completely optional but highly encouraged, as they build confidence and provide a goal to work towards. Our relaxed showcases celebrate progress at every level, from beginners taking their first steps to more experienced dancers. It's about joy and achievement, not perfection!
